When a Family Member Passes Away

Our condolences. Several procedures must be completed within deadlines. Take them one at a time.

    🏠 Life Events Open
    Death Registration (Shibo-todoke)
    ⚠️ Within 7 days of learning of the death. Need hospital death certificate.
    Submit the Death Registration within 7 days of passing. Bring the doctor's death certificate to City Hall to receive the mandatory Cremation Permit.

    🏥 Health & Insurance Open
    National Health Insurance Enrollment
    Return the deceased's insurance card and cancel membership.
    If you leave your job, you must join City Health Insurance within 14 days. Bring the 'Certificate of Loss of Insurance' from your old company to City Hall!

    🏠 Life Events Open
    Seal Registration (Inkan Toroku)
    The deceased's seal registration may need to be cancelled.
    To register your official seal for major contracts in Japan, bring your wooden/stone Hanko and your Residence Card to City Hall. It can be done same-day!
